~Wild Horse~
A cimmaron sun arises
The desert rose blooms
The painted desert shines
In the sky, pink, red and blue
Wild Horse climbs
galloping into the long shadows
around yucca trees and cacti
He bathes in morning light
He watches billowy clouds
building change into haze
An azure sky and desert mirages
The smell of sage and dust
Wild Horse looks back
at reds, yellows, greens and blues
He crosses arroyos
around ravines towards a rocky bluff
He hears the distant thunder
It rumbles as lightning flashes
Purple turns black over the mountains
The breeze becomes a dry wind
He gallops away towards the arid scape
Dust devils dance in the horizon
The wind in his face whistling
The heat subsides, mirages disappear
Colors wash over him
They run and fade together
like rain evaporating
The desert thirsts for a drink
Long shadows shorten
The mountains speak of power
He runs now among the granite
He climbs another bluff
He sees a cloud of dust arise
He hears horses hooves and whinnies
They answer him as twilight falls
Bulbous clouds fade into velvet
He gazes into the sky
The stars appear in his sight
They meet him there upon the bluff
greeting him snorting and pawing
He greets the herd high spirited
rearing and throwing his head
They follow him as he gallops off
Wild Horse is free
